Easy Rye Punch Cake recipe for the 4th.

This is basically my venerable old whisky punch cake slightly revamped to be a wee bit more patriotic.

First, grab your good old lemon cake mix from the store and all the stuff that goes in it save 1/2 cup of water. Substitute the missing water with 1/2 cup of good old American Rye Whiskey and add a 1/2 tsp of cloves. Cook it up per the directions on the box in a bunt pan.

For a topping, take a stick of butter, 1/2 cup of Rye Whiskey and 1/2 cup of brown sugar and the zest of one lemon. Combine in a small sauce pan on a medium heat. Stir until all the butter is melted and it's just about to a boil, reduce heat and let it reduce down to a thick syrup. After the cake is cool, drizzle the reduction over the top all artistic like.

Eat.

Simple as that.

So We've been living here most of Casey's life. I do all most all of the cooking and enjoy a good bake once and a while. I was sitting in the living room figuring on how to cook the chicken thighs up since the BBQ done went dry and noticed a wee door under the oven I'd never noticed before. I though to myself "Hot damn, I got's me a broiler!" So I preheat the oven up, laid out the chicken on a rack and slide out the wee door only to discover, I don't have a broiler, I've a drawer built into my oven. Why the hell would you design an oven with a drawer where the broiler shoud aught to be? Oh well, I guess it's baked chicken tonight.

I are a Deulist.

It's taken a few days to get comfortable with the fact but comfortable or not on Saturday, at Gyldenholt's Anniversary, I was inducted into the (Caidan) Order of the Deulist. I felt unworthy as I really don't think I can fight at the level that most of the deulists I know (but as was pointed out to me at the time the order isn't necessarily prowess based). I felt so honored by the recognition of the Crown and that of my peers. This filled me with great satisfaction. I was so shocked that I was in a fog throughout and hardly can remember a thing after I heard my name called.
As Guiles read out the text for the award I stood looking about the audience looking to see who was there that is at the deulist level not once thinking it could have been me. I noticed my household was unexpectedly at court too (including my wife which is even more significant) all of which should have been a clue but I still didn't get it. As a wise man later pointed out, if you are standing at court looking about for whom ever is likely to get the award being called out and you don't see anyone it's probably you.
Thank you Caid. I will endeavor to be the deulist you seem to think I am.
